Intent
We work collaboratively as a team, sharing our planning and resources across all classes to guarantee that every child enjoys equal access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
By fostering an environment that encourages curiosity and independent thinking, we help students discover their strengths within the curriculum, allowing them to use their skills and knowledge to further their learning in other areas of the curriculum.
We have high expectations for our pupils, consistently modelling our core values in every interaction and activity.
Our teaching and learning approaches are adapted to meet the unique needs of each child, ensuring that they make significant progress from their individual starting points. This commitment to adaptation and support enables all students to thrive and reach their full potential.
Implementation
We implement our curriculum through quality first teaching and learning, delivering a broad and balanced education to our children. We teach the National Curriculum thematically, creating connections between the foundation subjects and literacy. This method helps enhance knowledge and skills while providing hands-on learning experiences which engage our young learners.
We have 5 classes in KS1, 2 in Year 1 and 2 in Year 2, with one mixed age class. We work hard to ensure we meet the needs of all students. We have designed our curriculum to ensure that there is continuity between the topics being taught in Year 1 and Year 2. In the mixed age class, although the over arching themes are consistent across both year groups, we ensure that children are taught the National Curriculum related to their year group to ensure appropriate coverage.
We focus on early reading, writing, and mathematics as the foundation for continuous learning, weaving opportunities to apply these across our curriculum. Our half-termly topics are designed to be engaging, allowing children to develop their learning skills through exciting experiences. Quality teaching is crucial for our success, and we have high expectations for all students. Each child is given the chance to challenge themselves and expand their knowledge across the curriculum. Teachers provide tailored support to enrich and adapt the learning experience.
We measure progress based on age-related expectations and use 'Twinkl Phonics' and 'White Rose' Maths resources to support our help children master key skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. We are proud of our bespoke English curriculum.
We celebrate positive learning behaviours and children’s achievements, preparing them for lifelong learning in the community. Our relational behaviour approach fosters mutual respect and well-being.
We understand the needs of vulnerable learners and emphasise the importance of nurture and resilience in teaching, valuing the role that parents play as partners in their children's education.
This approach enables children to thrive, excel, and retain knowledge in a safe and nurturing environment.
PE
We ask for pupils to come to school dressed ready for PE on their PE day. Long hair will need to be tied back and children will need any earrings removed. We cannot remove earrings for your child.
